What This PDF Rotation Tool Does

Is this PDF rotation tool completely free?

The only constraint is a 15 MB file size limit per upload, which covers the vast majority of PDF documents. Very large PDFs — such as high-resolution photo books or engineering drawings — may exceed this. For those, the Compress PDF tool can reduce the file size before you rotate.

Can I rotate different pages by different angles?

Yes. Each page card has its own set of rotation buttons — 90° clockwise, 90° counter-clockwise, and 180°. You can set each page independently. For example, you might rotate pages 1 and 5 by 90° clockwise, page 3 by 180°, and leave all other pages unchanged. The purple badge on each card shows its current rotation setting at a glance.

You can also use the global toolbar to set the same rotation for all pages at once, then adjust individual pages that need something different. The global Reset button clears all rotations back to 0° so you can start over if needed.

Will rotating the PDF reduce the quality of the file?

No. The rotation is entirely lossless. PDF pages contain their content as structured objects — text, vector graphics and embedded images — and rotating a PDF simply updates a metadata value in the page dictionary that tells viewers how to display each page. The actual content objects are not touched, re-encoded or recompressed in any way.

This means text remains perfectly sharp and searchable after rotation, vector graphics are unchanged, and images retain exactly their original resolution and compression without any additional degradation.

Why is my PDF showing pages sideways even though it looks correct in my browser?

When you open a PDF in a browser, the built-in viewer sometimes auto-rotates pages based on content detection, making a sideways PDF appear upright on screen — but the underlying file is still rotated. When that file is printed, sent by email, or opened in Adobe Acrobat, it appears sideways again because the underlying page orientation was never corrected.

Using this tool fixes the orientation at the file level. After downloading, the PDF will display correctly in every application and every printer without any viewer-side adjustment.

Can I rotate a password-protected PDF?

No — PDFs with an owner password restricting editing cannot be rotated because rotation is treated as a form of document modification, and the restriction is specifically designed to block modifications like this. The tool will report a rotation failure if it encounters this kind of protection, since qpdf refuses to write changes to a file whose owner permissions disallow it.

To fix this, open the file in Adobe Acrobat, go to File → Properties → Security, set security to None, then save and re-upload the unprotected copy. If you don't have Acrobat, our own Unlock PDF tool removes owner-only restrictions with no password needed, and free desktop tools such as PDF24 can also strip owner passwords if you happen to know the original password used to set them.

Does rotating a PDF affect bookmarks, hyperlinks and form fields?

Bookmarks, internal hyperlinks and form fields are all preserved during rotation. The underlying page content objects and their internal coordinates are not touched or rewritten; only a display-orientation flag on each page is updated, which is what makes the operation both lossless and structurally safe for documents with rich navigation or interactive elements.

One nuance worth knowing: fillable form fields will appear in a different visual position on a rotated page, since the coordinate origin used to place them shifts along with the page's new orientation. This is rarely a practical problem, but it's worth checking form layouts after rotating a document that still needs to be filled in, especially for pages rotated by 90° or 270° rather than a straight 180° flip.

Are my files kept private and secure?

Yes. All file transfers happen over an encrypted HTTPS connection, so your document is protected the moment it leaves your device. Once the rotated PDF is ready for download, both the original upload and the generated output are automatically deleted from Convixy's servers — typically within the same browsing session and always within one hour, with no manual cleanup required on your part.

How is this different from rotating a PDF in my browser or PDF reader's view?

Many PDF readers and browser-based viewers let you temporarily rotate the on-screen display of a page — for example, pressing a rotate icon in Chrome's built-in PDF viewer. This only changes how the page looks to you in that moment; it does not modify the underlying file. Close and reopen the PDF, or open it in a different application, and it reverts to its original orientation.
